Get Ready For Winter With End Of Summer A/C Maintenance
There’s little doubt that with summer winding down and winter just around the corner, many people are beginning to get ready for the colder weather. Whether you are bringing in patio furniture, taking care of yard or home maintenance or just relishing the last days of summer, now is the best time to consider summer air conditioning maintenance.
End of season A/C maintenance is the perfect way to ensure your cooling system is ready for you when you need it next summer. Fortunately, a few simple maintenance procedures is all that will be necessary in order to protect your equipment through the winter. One important thing that should be taken care of before winter hits is the drain line and collection pan for your air conditioner. Your air conditioner naturally removes moisture from the air and this condensation is collected in a drip pan that then flows outside through a drain line. This pan should be emptied and the drain line cleared in order to ensure there is no damage when the freezing weather hits.
Your air conditioner’s inside unit is made up of coils and fins that can collect dust during the cooling season. Now is an excellent time to wipe these clean and make sure they have proper air flow for next season. Similarly, the outside unit should also be washed with the hose and any debris removed from around the unit. This will help make sure that air is able to circulate freely for optimal performance.
A crucial part of any A/C maintenance is to make sure that air filters are clean. This is something that should typically be done every month, but it is also a good idea to make sure they are clean at the end of the season. Some filters are reusable and can be washed and replaced once they are thoroughly dry; however, other filters are inexpensive and are designed to be thrown away and replaced with a new filter. Whichever type you have, make sure you have a clean air filter in your unit before switching over to your heating equipment. Of course, many HVAC systems use the same air filter for both heating and cooling, so this step will be especially important if the air filter will be used with your heating system.
