3 Ways to Celebrate the Start of Winter in Seattle

Winter is almost here, which means that the holidays are not far behind. If you love celebrating the start of winter and the holiday season, then you’ll want to check out some of these fun ways to enjoy the start of winter in Seattle, WA:

Winter in Seattle

  1. Watch “A Christmas Carol.”

“A Christmas Carol” is a holiday classic that the whole family is sure to love. You can catch a live performance of this Christmas classic at ACT Theatre in Seattle from December 19 through December 28, 2017. This is a 90-minute performance with no intermission, so it’s best not to bring any children under 5. For more information, click here.

If you’re not able to make it to the live performance, you can coordinate a fun movie night with your family to watch the film version. That way, you can snuggle up on the couch and make all your favorite snacks to enjoy the film with those you love the most.

  1. Enjoy the holiday lights.

One of the best ways to kick off the winter season is by enjoying some festive holiday lights with the family. An easy way to enjoy the lights without traveling is to simply take a walk through your neighborhood and take in the different displays. This might also be the best time to put up your own decorations with help from everyone in the family.

If your neighborhood isn’t lit up yet, you can still enjoy holiday lights at a few different locations in the Seattle area:

  • Garden d’Lights – Check out the lights at the Bellevue Botanical Garden from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. every day from December 18 – 31, 2017.
  • Wild Waves – See colorful displays with millions of lights at the Holiday with Lights in Federal Way, open from December 18 – 31, 2017. (Closed Dec. 11-14 and 24-25.)
  • Lights at the Zoo – Both the Seattle Zoo and the Tacoma Zoo have special Christmas light displays from December 18, 2017 – January 1, 2018.

These light displays are a great way to celebrate the start of winter with the whole family.

  1. Check out Winterfest.

Whether it’s your first winter in Seattle or your 20th, you can always enjoy celebrating the start of winter with other members of the Seattle community at Winterfest. This event takes place at the Seattle Center and is free to all who attend. Here, you can enjoy holiday lights, festive dancers, carolers, ice sculptors, and even model trains. For a fee, you can also take the family ice skating at Fisher Pavillion. The event takes place from December 18, 2017 – January 1, 2018. (Closed on December 25, 2017.)
