Signs of Water Heater Problems
If you see any signs of these water heater problems, then we strongly recommend calling us for an inspection. We can diagnose these problems and help you figure out the best solution.
- Rusty Water – If you see rusty water coming out from the hot side piping of your home, then it can be a sign that your water heater is rusting away on the inside. There’s a good chance that it will leak in the future. Another possibility is that you have rusty pipes. We can figure out the real cause behind this problem during our inspection.
- Noise and Rumbling – Old water heaters often have sediment build up on the bottom of the tank. When this sediment is heated and reheated over and over again, then it will eventually harden. This hard sediment causes rumbling and banging sounds when the water is used. You need to call us for an inspection so we can determine if your water heater is near the end of its life span.
- Moisture – You may have a small leak or fracture in the tank if you spot any moisture near your water heater. During our inspection, we will thoroughly inspect your water heater and find these leaks.

We have a 100+ year old Craftsman house and wanted to upgrade to a heat pump system. We had multiple bids which were unsettlingly all very different. Jonas from Cardinal was the most thorough and ended up recommending a hybrid system very different from the others. (Before I mention the quality of the work, I say want to say the system works extraordinarily well - the decision the accept the limitation of the 100 year old ducting system and work with it was brilliant.)
We had the new heat pump system installed in July 2024 with a new ducted system for the second floor. The Cardinal installation team really did an excellent job. They were also very professional, and thoughtfully walked us through some of the installation issues and decisions we needed to make . Their daily cleanup was excellent.
We are continually surprised by how well the systems works. We mostly wanted to use the system for the summers, particularly for the smoke events and weren't sure the cooling would be well distributed. But thanks to the suggestion by Josh that we wire up a switch to use the old gas furnace's fan in the summer, the cool air is distributed pretty well. And the heating effect is really wonderful.
We had a post installation problem with leaking condensation causing some ceiling damage. Cardinal made good on the installation paying for the repairs continuing their excellent service. Cardinal is one of the best contractors we ever worked with - I can't recommend them highly enough!
