Why Your HVAC System Has Weak Airflow and How to Fix It

One of the most inconvenient things that can happen to your home this chilly season is not getting enough heated air. You ought to make sure that your HVAC system is ready for the daily grind of regulating your indoor climate.

Considering that winter is just around the corner, you can’t afford to have a heating unit that blows air weakly. If it does, these are the usual suspects:

The Thermostat Setting Is Incorrect

First of all, make sure your thermostat is set to heat and the fan is on “AUTO”. If it isn’t, you’re really not going to get any heat from the registers. Check all of the controls to see if everything’s in order. Then see if your thermostat is properly set to trigger the furnace to run when it gets cold.

If it doesn’t work, install fresh batteries, as well as check fuses and circuit breakers, to rule out power issues. If it doesn’t do the trick, you may need to dust its interior. If all else fails, either adjusting or replacing is the next logical step.

The Filter Is Dirty

If your thermostat is fine, your furnace might have a dirty filter. Dirt build-up can limit the airflow, causing your heating equipment to underperform. If you have a reusable filter, clean it before trying again. Otherwise, change the filter if you haven’t done so in a while.

The Ducts Are Leaky

Holes in the ductwork are likely a cause for concern. The heated air will not be able to reach the destination; a portion of it can escape through the gaps. In turn, your furnace has to make up for the loss, which is bound to fail until your improperly sealed ducts are fixed.
