Things To Consider When Replacing Furnace
When your home’s furnace continues to need frequent repair, and it is old, chances are it is time for a new one. By repairing your furnace regularly, you can end up spending more money than you would be spending on a new furnace. Before furnace replacement, there are a few things that you should consider .
Heating Capacity
When you replace your furnace, you do not want to replace your existing unit with another unit with the same heating capacity. By using the same heating capacity is not the most energy efficient or the most cost efficient way to go. When your HVAC technician is considering the size of the furnace that you will need, they should not necessarily go by the square footage of your home. They should calculate your home’s heating load, and factor in the insulation in the home, the number of windows and their placement, and the size and layout of your home.
Source of Fuel
Often times, you will replace your existing furnace with, one which runs on the same fuel supply as your old one. While this is a good idea, in some cases it is not. You should do some research, and find out if there are any cheaper alternatives to the fuel that you are currently using. If there are, you should look into changing your fuel source.
Furnace Efficiency
When you are planning to replace your current furnace, you want to purchase the most energy efficient units possible. Modern furnaces come in a variety of efficiency levels. The more energy efficient a unit is, the more it will cost. If you live in a place where the winters are mild, such as Florida, you do not need to pay a great deal of money for a very efficient unit. You would not recoup the investment by saving money on fuel. If you live in a place with very cold winters, such as New England, you can make the money back that you invested in a very efficient unit within a few years.
Purchasing a new furnace is a very large investment. It is important to take certain things into consideration so that you can get the most efficient unit at the best price.
